About Yaakov

Yaakov was born and raised in Queens, New York, where his music career had its humble beginnings. By the age of seven, Yaakov was playing Jewish music classics on the piano, and over the subsequent years, numerous other instruments as well. He began composing at age fourteen, when he played for multiple bands in his high school and community. His first public release came in 2013, when he inspired many with a single about unity in a time of Israel’s need. Yaakov has studied many aspects of music both formally and informally, including theory, history, performance, production, arrangement, and several others. Yaakov, now an active singer-songwriter and music producer as well as a financial advisor, lives in Manhattan with his wife, Levana.

He dedicates much of his time to volunteer work, such as working with children and adults with special needs with organizations such as Camp HASC and Yachad, as well as Jewish community outreach with NCSY, and musically uplifting elderly and ill individuals with organizations like Music Vs and Chai Lifeline. His experiences with community service have been strong inspirations for his music and have influenced a number of his songs.
“More Light”, the DFK 2015 Worldwide Anthem, is one such song. It speaks about how every single person has unique talents and abilities that can be used to make the world a better place. We all have the ability to do acts of kindness, and each one makes a real impact on the world. Whether you sing to put a smile on someone’s face, provide love and care for individuals with special needs, visit hospital patients, run charity marathons, or buy a homeless man ice cream, you are using your unique skills to bring “More Light” into the world.

Q&A with Yaakov Feldstein

Music has been an integral part of who I am since day one. It flows through my body like the blood in my veins and emanates from everything I do. I firmly believe that music is a way in which we can all connect with ourselves, each other, and the world around us, by communicating, as well as documenting and expressing emotion in a way that words can’t.

Music is a universal language. It can be used to break through any barrier that separates one person from another. If the music we sing and dance to is a fire lit by kindness and compassion, then that is the message we will be spreading around the world.

More Light

Written by: Yaakov Feldstein

Put on a smile for those who don’t
And change the world for those who won’t
Today’s our day to share a dream
The power lies in our belief

Let’s speak for all of those who can’t
And rise for those who cannot stand
Inside we all shine like the sun
It’s time to let it out together as one

More light, more love
Everything we’re made up of is light
Hold on tight, through it all
Pick the whole world up when you see it fall
And shine more light

Let’s give our love to those in need
and change the headlines that we read
We all want peace, this is our chance
Unite the world through song and dance

There is a space that you can fill
Look deep within you’ll find the skill
It’s better to fail than never try
Follow your heart and you will
glimmer and shine with…

(Repeat Chorus)

You don’t need a cape to be a hero
It’s more heroic to teach others to fly
An act of kindness, no matter how small
Creates a ripple that goes on and on …
