I had no idea what I was taking on. Being a group leader was overwhelming at times, but Orly helps you figure things out step by step. I developed organizational and technology skills. We originally were going to host a private event at our school, but the pure joy and excitement was bursting at the seams, and we decided to perform at a mall close to our school. We ended up with a parent volunteering to be our videographer, a beautiful flag being donated by a local business and orange shirts purchased by the school. Our Kindness Challenge (making and handing out pens decorated with orange silk flowers) was another way for our group of students to come together and do something together. What a wonderful experience!

Our 5th year of participation has been an amazing one at our school! Things are finally opening up again post-COVID, so it was such a privilege for parents to join us again to celebrate what kindness means to us all. Our school banded together to put on a Kindness Week for the entire school to participate in (see attached posters). Thank you, Orly, for organizing this wonderful event!

Dance for Kindness is the most amazing opportunity for our students to think globally, to make conscious choices about acting kindly and to be empowered by participating in such a positive group event. The songs lyrics are always so powerful with such significant messages and amazing music, and the dances are always brilliantly choreographed. When I think of dance and I think of kindness, this is the event/experience/curriculum of choice. Absolutely superb, thank you so much!

As a Veteran Group Leader, I can tell you that Dance for Kindness is an amazing event! Each year I have new interests and new friendships formed. It brings people together in Kindness which is refreshing for everyone. DFK has helped me reach goals that I used to think were not possible and has allowed me to open people’s eyes to how simple it can be to share kindness.

My experience as a group leader for the first time was very nerve wracking at first, but once I saw all the support it was much easier to guide myself along. Though in the actual event I had so much fun seeing all of the smiling faces and it felt humbling knowing that I had a major part in making things happen. When organizing this event I really feel my favorite part was actually dancing. I learned to delegate, delegate, delegate. That is not my strongest suit and with this and all of the other things I had going on in my life it was critical for me to delegate tasks so that things could get done. I would definitely be a group leader again and it would be much smoother knowing what I know now so I would love to come back and see what next year brings.

I learned as a leader to believe in miracles, because in Colombia and in my city, Bogotá, we are going through a winter wave that has caused deaths and many disasters. This year I made the decision to change the location and carry out the DFK, in the poorest area of my city, I was about to cancel the event, because some mountains were collapsing in this area, but the people, and especially the girls from the Foundation, believed that the day of the event the sun would accompany us It was only necessary for her to believe it, because according to the words of the girls “What we are going to do is so beautiful, surely God will also be kind to us”, and so it was, on the day of the DFK, the sun shone brightly , many of the people from this place went to see and participate bringing food for those of us who were in the DFK, everything was wonderful and of course, I learned to believe in miracles.

This is the first time our school participated in the Dance for Kindness event in celebration of World Kindness day. The students, parents, staff and community had an opportunity to take part in this meaningful event to spread the message of kindness which tied into our school theme for the year. The idea that other schools from around the world take part in this massive event shows that we can all unite together to raise awareness, educate and share the love.

It is very easy to be the leader for this, as there is so much support from Orly and DFK. I work as the contact person, and then we have other members of the community who do the on-the-group organization of teaching the dance. Working with a team to do this makes it very easy, and more people feel invested.

Thank you to our amazing DFK Team: Ms. Katya, Ms. Katya Z., Ms. Dana and Ms. Helen for making this a huge success in Kyiv!
